PharmaSeq Receives Phase II SBIR Grant for Small Animal Tagging

Monmouth Junction, NJ, September 20, 2010. PharmaSeq, Inc., announced today the receipt of a $1.2 million, two year Phase II SBIR grant for a project entitled "Tagging of Laboratory Mice with Microtransponders". The grant was awarded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the NIH [Award Number 2R44GM087834-02].

The main goal of the grant is to continue prior development and further refine Company's proprietary microtransponder-based system to tag and track small laboratory animals, such as mice. It is anticipated that completion of this work will lead to a more humane and reliable method to secure chain-of-custody for animals that are used in various research and clinical studies. Current methods, which are often inadequate, rely on ear tags, toe clipping and related methods that may lead to mistaken identities that result in costly repeating of experiments and delays in introduction of products.

Additional information about the PharmaSeq mouse tagging system is provided on the company's web site, http://www.pharmaseq.com/pages/rfid.html. The information includes a White Paper and a video showing the implantation of a p-Chip into the tail of a mouse.

Dr. Wlodek Mandecki, President of PharmaSeq, Inc., said: "This award confirms the importance of our earlier work with p-Chips and small animals. We anticipate that the additional work being conducted under this new award will allow us to proceed rapidly towards commercialization of a widely accepted, standard system to humanely tag and track experimental animals while improving quality of identification of subjects."

For further information, please contact Dr. Richard Morris, CEO, or Dr. Wlodek Mandecki, President, at (732) 355-0100 ext 11.
